4 Virtual Team-Building Activities to try with your Coworkers

Odds are that by now, ten months into the pandemic, you have been invited to your fair share of virtual team-building activities. Whether it was a happy hour with coworkers or reconnecting with old friends there’s been an abundance of companies that have popped up in 2020 to meet the demand for virtual experiences.

I recently started a new job where one of my major priorities is coordinating our new hire onboarding program. Needless to say, I’ve scoured the internet and asked my network for the best team-building activities to help make new hires feel comfortable during their first few days on the job.

Here are some of my favorite I have found during my few months on the job:

  1. Moonshot

Moonshot is a brainchild of the husband and wife duo, Mike & Carina. As PC gamers and escape room enthusiasts, they opened The Reason Experience in San Francisco, to transform the traditional escape room medium with technology. Before the pandemic, they catered to Silicon Valley tech companies who were looking for large group team-building experiences, since then they’ve transitioned to a virtual environment.

Moonshot in a real-life rescue mission in space for teams of up to 100 people. Conducted over video conference, Moonshot incorporates a virtual bot assistant, remote controllable props, puzzles, and a live host.

Good game, super host, all around really great integration of cool applications. I liked how unique & challenging the tasks were - good mental exercise. Our team had a blast and we found the format to work well virtually. Great activity for remote teams.

Their website says they are completely booked for 2020, but you can use the Discount: BRINGEXTRAPOTATOS to receive 15% off your booking in Q1 of 2021.

2. The Escape Game

The Escape Game currently has over 17 locations nationwide, but similarly to the team at Reason, they pivoted to offering remote games this year. Now you can experience a life, hosted adventure from the comfort of your home. There are currently multiple different adventures you can experience which vary in difficulty: Gold Rush, The Heist, and Prison Break.

These sessions are hosted on a smaller scale (8 people per room) and are guided by two-game hosts. They will act as your eyes and ears and walk through the escape room to complete all of the activities. Over the course of the past few months, they have added custom digital dashboards, 360-degree scans of a room, zoom background, and sound effects.

“The best escape room experience you can possibly have from the comfort of your own home.”

3. Sangria and Secrets with Drag Queens

The queens of Drag Taste, hold AirBnB’s title of #1 Online Experience in the world. Based out of Lisbon, Portugal this event elevates your typical happy hour experience with a cabaret-style digital sangria making class followed by a conversation about Portuguese drag culture. Each show is complete with fireworks, smoke effects, lights, and costumes (of course).

This is a great option for an international team as they can host the event in 5 different languages for up to 1200 guests.

What a show! What an art! These fabulous queens are doing it right. Thank you for such a fun, custom experience that put a smile on all of our faces. Best team bonding experience to date! :)

4. Survey Says

If you are a fan of the popular game show, Family Feud, this game is for you! My team just completed a version of this game for our Holiday party and it was so much fun.

If you’re unfamiliar with this game, there are two teams who try to guess the top six to ten answers displayed on the board. Currently, the TeamBonding.com team provides a host to guide you and up to 99+ other guests through the 90-minute experience. You also have the ability to customize the questions asked to increase engagement. For example, ESPN changed their questions based on a company survey to include sports-themed questions.

TeamBonding was amazing!!! They went above and beyond to make our event a success. They had us rolling in our seats. I strongly encourage the Survey Says game for anyone looking for an employee engagement event.
